About the Symposium
Welcome to Malta: a land that embraces a rich history of an emergent humanity. Malta is home to some of the oldest free-standing temples in the world, dotted over the Maltese Islands and dating back between 3600 B.C and 2500 B.C. It is also home to over ninety caves – underground dwelling places, some dating back thousands of years; a place of community and rituals first lived and celebrated within the darker confines of the earth.
In this symposium we explore different metaphors that suggest entering an unknown space. Besides looking down the rabbit-hole, we go ‘into the cave’ and distance ourselves from current difficulties so that we can return to see things from different perspectives. With the arts we are pulled ahead by the power of our imagination. This process draws us into a creative space where we can explore with curiosity, what emerges, stretching to give new meaning to our experience.
With Malta as a backdrop, it is with great passion that I welcome teachers, directors and participants to continue living the sense of community that goes beyond time and space. This web site is designed to do just that. It is a space for you participants to share your reflections, your art work, your writing as well as a way to respond to each other. In keeping with the theme of the Symposium, I invite you to stay curious as you peep in from time to time and let yourself be pulled ahead by new images and words; move through the different chambers and as you play, let the arts reach into the depth of your being.
